Joliet West Alumnus Named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete

Joliet West High School alumnus Andrew Drummond was recently one of five University of Dubuque students to earn the honor of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

Drummond graduated Joliet West High School in 2012 and is currently a two-sport athlete.  At the University of Dubuque Drummond is on the varsity football and tennis teams and participates in the fishing club and flight team.  Drummond is double majoring in professional aeronautics and aviation management.  He recently received his private pilot's certificate and is working on his instrument and commercial ratings.

"Joliet West High School prepared me for college by providing a variety of opportunities that developed my time management skills,” said Drummond.  “While taking honors and AP classes, along with playing two sports at West, I knew that in order to be successful I needed to manage my time and not get behind in my schoolwork.  The staff at Joliet West was always willing to help and support me.  I can also say that my choice in major was a direct result of the required Job Shadowing Experience my sophomore year where I visited the Lewis Aviation Facility.  Without this experience I may not have found an interest in the field that I love."
