Joliet West's Mu Alpha Theta hosts Math-Magic Spectacular

Math came to life for Joliet West High School freshman students during the Math-Magic Spectacular held on Nov. 21.   The event, hosted by students in the Joliet West Mu Alpha Theta Math Club, was designed to facilitate discussion about mathematical strategies through the analysis of card and magic tricks. The event took during place freshman math periods and featured 15 stations with different card tricks at each point.

“This was a great opportunity for students to think critically about math, while experiencing something different and interesting,” said Mu Alpha Theta Faculty Sponsor Dan Spradley.  “It was great to see the students figure out the math principles that were associated with the tricks, and the students of Mu Alpha Theta did an outstanding job organizing the event.”
