JTHS Auto Students Break Records at Engine Competition

Joliet Township High School auto students competing in the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge at the National Hot Rod Association Nationals competition broke the team’s record for their fastest engine building time on June 28 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet.

Despite the heat and humidity, the team posted their fastest time yet at 24 minutes flat for the engine challenge. The competition required students to disassemble and re-assemble a V-8 race engine using only hand tools. Competing teams were timed and the engine was expected to run once assembled. Representing Comp Cams Products, the JTHS students successfully assembled two perfect engines.

“At the end of the day, we were in fourth place, which qualified us to compete in Sunday's shootout,” said JTHS Automotive Instructor and Coach Mark Brannick. “Unfortunately, we were not able to attend Sunday's event due to students' work schedules.”

Students who competed in the engine challenge included Jerry Brown, Ryan Connor, Dylan Crotty, Fernando Dominquez and Givon Jasper.
