New Drewmatic Treatment of Peterson Story

First there was the book, then the play and the movie seen by millions.

And on Sunday, the Drew Peterson saga will get yet another dramatic treatment with the opening of Dating Walter Dante.

WBEZ had a story on the new play and said this:

"It's hard to imagine a comedy based on the Drew Peterson case, but playwright Jon Steinhagen is on a roll: this will be the third of his plays to go up in the past six months."

Hard for them to imagine, maybe, but not hard for us here at the Patch. But that's because we already saw a very clever play based on the Peterson story back in June. It was called Waiting For Drew Peterson, starring Nancy Friedrich and Amy Speckien, and directed by Scott Goldstein, and was performed at the Annoyance Theater & Bar.

And of course there was Drew Peterson: Untouchable, starring Rob Lowe and based on my (Joe Hosey's) book, Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Sergeant Drew Peterson.

Untouchable — which set ratings records — wasn't a comedy, but Peterson's lawyer, Joel Brodsky, said his accused wife-killer client thought it was "." Because what's funnier than the story of one of your wives dying and another one disappearing?

"He laughed and said, 'That's hilarious,'" Brodsky said, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.

Ha!

At any rate, it's going to be tough for this new production to top Waiting For Drew Peterson, but we want to see how it measures up. If we get around to going we'll let you know what we thought.
