I say this with the full realization that what I think about horse races is often wrong. But those are the picks for today's Preakness.

That said, I still wouldn't mind seeing Animal Kingdom win and keep the possibility of a Triple Crown alive. I don't believe he has it in him to win twice in a row on dirt against this kind of competition, and even if he does he'll probably pay less than 2-1, so we're going to stay away from the Derby winner.

Speaking of bad payouts, don't be surprised if Mucho Macho Man's 6-1 morning line drops due to the untimely passing of professional wrestling superstar (and Downers Grove North graduate) "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

I don't know anything about professional wrestling, or actually any kind of wrestling. But apparently Macho Man Savage was a crowd favorite. At least that's what I was told by a couple guys I talked to yesterday. So Mucho Macho Man's name should drive down the odds with casual bettors paying respect to the dead wrestler.

Besides wrestling, another thing I haven't been paying much attention to is all this talk about the Rapture. It figure that it's just getting nice outside and now we're all going to die.

What time is this supposed to happen anyway? I hope it's not before the race. If the 1-8-9 combination hits, don't be surprised if the world does come to an end.
