Armed Robbers Steal Teen's iPhone: Police

Joliet police were able to arrest one of the suspects because the victim was able to provide a description of his car, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

A man who put a knife to the throat of a 16-year-old boy to steal his iPhone -- only to throw it away a short while later -- was arrested Tuesday night, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

Anthony M. McGee, 18, and two other suspects are accused of accosting the teen at about 9:45 p.m. as he was walking in the 2300 block of Wesmere Parkway, near Caton Farm Road. The trio pulled up in a red Pontiac Grand Prix and surrounded him, Demick said.

McGee was the ringleader, demanding that the victim "give me everything you've got" and placing a knife on his throat, Demick said.

After they fled, the teen was able to give police a description of the car, which officers stopped about 35 minutes later in the 6900 block of Bitterroot Drive. McGee gave officers permission to search his vehicle, where they recovered the knife, Demick said.

The victim was later able to identify both McGee and the knife used in the incident, he said.

McGee, of 2001 Great Falls, which is in Joliet but has a Plainfield address, later admitted to police that he didn't keep the stolen phone. Instead, he threw it out the car window, Demick said.

While the suspect was forthcoming about several things, he would not reveal the names of his two cohorts, who are still being sought, he said.

McGee is being held at the Will County jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
