Body of Man Found Floating in Des Plaines River: Police

The identity of the victim, who had a wallet in his pocket, has not been released, but is not believed to be missing person Henry Chunn.

The body of a man was found in the Des Plaines River near the McDonough Street Bridge, Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton said Saturday.

The victim was discovered at about 6 p.m. and apparently was identified through a wallet found on his body, but the release of his name is pending notification of family by the Will County Coroner's Officer, Benton said.

It appears that the man had been in the water for a period of time, but that also must be determined by the coroner through an autopsy, he said.

Given that scenario, it's unlikely that it is Henry Chunn, 69, who was reported missing Oct. 17 by his wife after he left the downtown Harrah's Casino Hotel and walking across the Cass Street Bridge over the Des Plaines River.

Joliet police issued a missing person report for Chunn, but so far investigators have been "stumped" over his whereabouts, Lt. Brian Dupuis said late last week. Chunn had little cash and no credit cards, Dupuis said.
