Drew Peterson's Cop Kid: UPDATE

The Oak Brook Fire and Police Commission put things off yet again.

The date with destiny for Drew Peterson's cop kid — yeah, well, scratch that.

The Oak Brook Fire and Police Commission put off deciding what to do with Peterson's son Stephen Peterson yet again, canceling a Feb. 19 meeting it just announced this morning.

A patrol officer with the Oak Brook Police Department, Stephen Peterson is on the hot seat for hiding three of his father's guns from the state police, neglecting to mention that his father gave him more than $230,000 in the midst of a criminal investigation, and failing to keep mum about the internal probe launched by Police Chief Thomas Sheahan.

Stephen Peterson has been on paid suspension since August while the fire and police commission has tried to figure out whether to fire him.

Stephen Peterson likely does not mind the paid time off from work, as he has been taking care of his four younger half-siblings following the May 2009 arrest of his father, former Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson.

Drew Peterson has been locked on in the county jail since then while he awaits trial on charges he murdered his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in March 2004. The state police also believe Drew Peterson had a hand in possibly slaying his missing fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, who vanished in October 2007.

This is the third time the fire and police commission has canceled the hearing at which they were supposed to either fire Stephen Peterson or return him to duty. This latest delay was prompted by the three-man commission failing to rustle up a quorum for the Feb. 19 meeting.

At most, one member of the commission, if any at all, was going to show up for the meeting.

The commission has yet to schedule a fourth date to announce their decision.
