Fire in Shorewood Leaves Family Temporarily Homeless

A Troy fire captain reported extensive smoke damage was done to a two-story home located at 908 Lynwood Court in Shorewood.

Extensive smoke damage from a fire on Friday afternoon has left one Shorewood family temporarily homeless, according to Troy Fire Protection District captain Dave Giese.

Giese said Troy firefighters were called to 908 Lynwood Court in Shorewood at 1:20 p.m. on Friday. He said crews worked for two hours to extinguish a fire that caused smoke to spread throughout the entire house and up into the attic space.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Giese said the homeowners' teenage son noticed the fire—which was located by Troy crews in the basement of the two-story, single-family residence—and went to a neighbor's to call 9-1-1. Both of his parents were at work. The cause of the fire has not been determined, Giese said.

He said Troy Fire's investigation likely will take two or three days to complete.

In the meantime, the homeowners have worked out arrangements through Red Cross to secure hotel/motel vouchers that will get them through the weekend, Giese said. Then, on Monday, they'll begin to seek longer-term arrangements, he said.
