Girl Rushed To Surgery After Family Van Rolls

A driver fled the scene of a crash after colliding with a van filled with children.

A 9-year-old girl is heading into surgery for internal injuries after her family's van rolled several times.

The van was struck by an oncoming F-150 pickup truck. The male driver of the truck fled the scene and but was later captured, police said.

The F-150 was traveling south on County Line Road in , right outside , when it turned left onto Baltz Road early Monday afternoon. The truck turned in front of the van, which was headed north and the two vehicles hit head on, according to Will County Sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer.

The girl, her mom and her two brothers, ages 10 and 13, were all taken to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. 

Will County Sheriff's deputies were unsure if the 10-year-old boy had been ejected from the vehicle. They found the driver of the truck behind some houses a half-mile away, police said.

All the passengers were transported to Provena St. Joseph's. The mother is being treated for a concussion. The two boys and the man are being evaluated.

The scene is still blocked off while the investigation continues. Charges are pending, Hoffmeyer said.
