Illinois State Police Nab Three Juveniles After Hit-And-Run Incident on I-55 at Arsenal Road

Troopers chased down one of the suspects after he attempted to flee on foot from the parking lot at the Pilot Travel Center in Channahon.

First, they stole a car. Then, they caused a wreck.

And, finally, three juveniles were arrested by Illinois State Police on Wednesday morning following a series of crazy events that culminated with a foot chase at the Pilot Travel Center gas station on U.S. 6 in Channahon.

Illinois State Trooper DeAnn Falat said three juveniles were traveling northbound on Interstate-55 in a stolen vehicle when they rear-ended another vehicle at milepost 242—in the area of Arsenal Road—causing an accident at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday in the road-construction zone.

She said the three juveniles fled the scene of the accident in the stolen vehicle and ultimately were located a short distance away—at the Pilot Travel Center on U.S. 6 in Channahon.

Falat said one of the suspects fled on foot and was chased down by Illinois State troopers, while the other two remained with the vehicle and were apprehended without incident at about 8:15 a.m. She said charges are pending and the investigation into the incident in ongoing.

""It sounds like the vehicle was stolen last night or early this morning," Falat said. "But we do not know from where as of yet. We believe it came from south of the location of where the crash occurred."

Falat said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash—a woman—was not injured. She said names of the three car thieves are being withheld because they are juveniles.
