Joliet man jailed after random run

A Shorewood cop hit a lucky number when he ran a Joliet man's plate and learned the driver's license had been suspended, police said.

Michael Coffman, 32, of 1104 Plaza Drive was pulled over about 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Route 59 and Vertin Boulevard.

The Shorewood officer not only arrested Coffman on a charge of driving while license suspended, but also took him into custody on a pair of warrants. The warrants — out of Kankakee County and Palos Heights — charge Coffman with "traffic offenses," police said.

Coffman couldn't come up with bond and was hauled down to the Will County jail, police said.

Domestic arrest

A local man was arrested at his home on a charge of domestic battery.

Russell Gombash, 48, of 516 Sean Drive was taken into custody about 5:20 p.m. He was transported to the county jail.

Teenage drug arrest

A local teen was jailed on a felony drug charge following a traffic stop near the intersection of Route 59 and Black Road.

Alexander Hoiden, 18, of 419 Thames Drive was a passenger in a car pulled over for missing its front license plate, police said.

During the 1:15 a.m. traffic stop, officers reportedly determined Hoiden was carrying drugs. He was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and transported to the county jail.

Oct. 6

Cops: Local man too fast for Shorewood

Officers collared an allegedly reckless driver who was speeding around Shorewood, police said.

Phillip Latta, 40, of 914 Marion Drive in Shorewood was picked up at his home shortly before 9 p.m.

Latta was charged with reckless driving and speeding. He was released from custody after posting bond.
