Man Arrested for Choking Pregnant Girlfriend, Police Say

Corey Copeland was also charged with violating his parole from previous convictions of burglary and theft, Joliet police said.

A Joliet man who choked his pregnant girlfriend during a fight because she would not let him borrow her car was arrested Sunday, Joliet police said.

Corey C. Copeland, 25, 416 N. Hickory, was charged with aggravated domestic battery after police were called to the home the couple shared to break up a fight, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Copeland was taken into custody after they observed red marks around the victim's throat and she informed them that she was pregnant, Jensen said.

Police also charged with a violating his March 2013 parole from prison. He was convicted in April 2011 and sentenced to 63 months for a felony theft committed in 2010 and a residential burglary committed in 2009. According to Illinois Department of Corrections records, he was also sentenced to three years in prison for a robbery he committed in 2007.
