Joliet police have identified the man killed Sunday morning as 18-year-old Adrian N. Resendiz of Joliet.

Original post/8 p.m. Sunday:

A Joliet police investigation is under way to determine why a man was shot multiple times and ended up dead in an East Side back yard early Sunday morning.

The victim, whose age and identity is not being released pending notification of his family, was found by a contractor at about 7:30 a.m.** behind a home at 126 Baker Ave., just off East Washington Street, Joliet Police Cmdr. Brian Benton said.

The discovery was made about an hour and a half** after police received calls about shots being fired in the 100 block of Hobbs Avenue, which is about a block away, Benton said.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday morning, after which more details will be released, but Benton did confirm the man had been shot multiple times.

The victim was not a known gang member but did associate with people who belonged to gangs, Benton said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Joliet police investigators at 815-724-3020 or call Crimestoppers of Will County at 800-323-6734. Tips can also be submitted via text message by texting “WILLCOCS” and TIP to 274637.
