The old rear registration light game

Yet another driver got tagged in Shorewood for tooling around without a functioning rear registration light.

Jerome Cannady, 57, of 128 S. 21st Ave. in Maywood was stopped shortly before 1o p.m. near the corner of River Road and Highland Avenue.

Cannady took a ticket for his bad back light and was also charged with driving while license suspended. On top of that, he was hit with a DuPage County warrant, also for driving while license suspended.

March 11

The old noisy muffler game

A  Joliet man driving around with a noisy muffler caught a case for pot possession.

Jacob Ethell, 28, of 603 Westnedge Road was pulled over shortly before 11 p.m. near the corner of Black Road and Summit Creek Drive.

He was cited for a muffler violation and charged with possession of cannabis and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

March 10

Wanted dead or alive (but really just alive)

A Joliet man with a warrant was taken into custody at the police station and then let go on bond.

Christopher Galindo, 20, of 125 Twin Oaks Drive was taken in on the Will County warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia at 4:15 p.m.

Shorewood police arrest woman for stealing food

A local woman was taken into custody for stealing groceries from the Dominic's at 950 Brookforest Avenue.

Camille Sumner, 57, of 22316 S. Newcastle Court was arrested shortly before 3:30 p.m.

March 9

Booze bandit busted

A Plainfield man allegedly tried to smuggle bottles of liquor out of the Dominic's at 950 Brookforest Avenue but somehow bungled his alleged klepto caper.

Angelo Fichter, 38, of 1404 Wood Duck Lane was arrested about 3 p.m. and charged with retail theft.

The cops then figured out Fichter was wanted down in South Boone County on charges of driving under the influence and driving without a valid license, and grabbed him for that too.

Fichter was hauled down to the county jail in Joliet.

March 8

Long arm of the law

A teenager wanted in Kendall County couldn't outrun the long arm of the law, at least not in Shorewood.

John Burns, 19, of 6513 Bazz Drive in Plainfield was picked up at the corner of Route 59 and Vertin Boulevard on a Kendall County warrant for consumption of liquor by a minor.

After his arrest, Burns was released on bond and avoided a trip to Kendall County.

March 7

Reefer madness

The cops caught a 20-year-old Burbank man hanging out with a 16-year-old girl, which apparently was all right in itself, but the pair were charged with pot possession.

Kevin Bernard, 20, of 5948 W. 79th St. in Burbank was arrested shortly after 11:30 p.m. in Shorewood Plaza at 700 W. Jefferson St. Bernard was charged with possession of cannabis.

A 16-year-old passenger in Bernard's car was also hit with possession of cannabis, along with possession of drug equipment and violating curfew. The teenage girl was turned over to one of her parents pending a court appearance.

Barroom brawl?

A local man was charged with battery in connection with an incident at a Cottage Street tavern.

Jerry Borrego, 56, of 710 S. Raven Road was charged with battery in connection with the incident at the Bullpen, a 716 Cottage St. bar, about 7 p.m.
