Joliet police were forced to kill a pit bull who charged them as they made a drug raid on an Elizabeth Street house, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

Technical officers were forced to kick in the door to the residence of Anthony T. Morrow, 38, 1017 Elizabeth St., when he refused to let them in at about 12:40 p.m. Friday, Roechner said.

Inside, they found Morrow with a pit bull, and told him to take control of the dog. He refused, and the dog charged at them, Roechner said. They had no choice but to shoot it, he said.

Police found 3.2 grams of powder cocaine inside the house, Roechner said. Morrow was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possesion of drug paraphernalia.

Morrow is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
