Police: Shorewood Cops Corral Car-Crime Crew

The Shorewood police rounded up a band of alleged car burglars early Tuesday morning.

The Shorewood police rounded up an alleged crew of car burglars throughout early Tuesday morning, capturing the fugitive teenagers as they futilely tried to hide themselves under decks and in back yards.

The four teens were after officers searched the dark streets of Shorewood for about three hours, then headed over to the Minooka residence of one who somehow made it home, police said.

All four — Tremaine Perry, 17, of 1124 Redwood Lane in Minooka, Aaron Lee, 17, of 26149 Raintree Court in Channahon, Khiry McKinley, 18, of 1458 Crowfoot Lane in Minooka, and Antonio Cuevas, 18, of  26309 Riverbend Road in Channahon — remained in custody at the county jail Wednesday afternoon.

Shorewood police Cmdr. Eric Allen said an alert citizen called the law to report a "suspicious vehicle" and "suspicious people" looking in cars parked in the area of Glen Oaks Lane shortly after 2 a.m.

Just before officers arrived, one of the thieves set off a car alarm, Allen said, and the quartet of crooks took off running.

"We spent the rest of the morning corralling them," Allen said, telling how the police had the first one apprehended about 20 minutes after the alarm went off and caught two more just before 5 a.m.

About 7 a.m., Shorewood officers went to Perry's Minooka home and took him into custody.

The police also towed the car the four apparently took to Shorewood.

Detectives explored the possibility that the teens might be responsible for a string of car burglaries committed in Shorewood two months ago, Allen said, but found no connection.
