Somebody's stealing sewer grates in Shorewood.

The Shorewood Police Department has issued an alert to warn the public of the recent theft of sewer grates.

"The Shorewood Police Department is currently investigating the thefts of several sewer grates," said the Monday night alert. "The missing grates pose a threat to both automobile and pedestrian traffic."

The alert went on to note that "Subdivisions where the community is not fully developed are being targeted. Report any suspicious activity."

The police have classified this threat as a "moderate" one that poses a "possible threat to life or property."

If you happen to spot any suspicious activity anywhere in , or were to notice someone actually stealing a sewer grate, the department asks you to either call 911 or to dial the police station directly at 815-725-4636.
