The chase started when a Shorewood officer attempted to pull a car over near the junction of Route 52 and I-55 about 1 p.m. for a seat belt violation, Klima said.

Instead of stopping, the driver headed for the interstate and took it south. The Shorewood officer gave chase but broke off his pursuit at Interstate 80 due to safety concerns.

"We're not the only ones looking for him," Klima said.
