Shorewood Man Charged with Felony After Scuffling with Cops

Samuel A. Miller was arrested by police in downtown Lockport after an incident late Sunday night/early Monday morning.

A 20-year-old Shorewood man faces three counts, including felony aggravated battery, after he was arrested late Sunday night/early Monday morning following an incident in downtown Lockport.

Samuel A. Miller, 24208 W. Clarage, Shorewood, was charged with aggravated battery, resisting arrest and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, Lockport police chief David Draksler said.

Draksler said Lockport police responded to a call of a domestic situation between a man and a woman at the corner of 9th and State Streets in Lockport at about midnight on Sunday, May 12. By the time officers arrived, Draksler said the male subject—Miller—had left the scene of the incident.

Draksler said officers spoke with a witness and tracked Miller down at the intersection of 10th and State Streets.

“When they approached him, he started to walk away,” Draksler said. “One of the officers put his hand on his shoulder and explained they needed to talk with him. At that time, he became aggressive and pushed the officer.

“When the officers went to take him into custody, he struggled with them.”

Draksler said a witness at the scene of the original domestic incident said Miller was punched in the face by a female subject. Draksler said his officers were able to confirm that account—“She said she hit him,” he said.

The woman was not charged of any wrongdoing, Draksler said. He declined to go into the specifics of why she was not charged.

Miller was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and was awaiting an hearing on Monday, May 13.
