Shorewood Sex Offender Hooked For LaSalle County Case

A Shorewood sex offender was arrested and shipped off to LaSalle County.

The stopped by a local sex offender's home and took him into custody on a LaSalle County case.

Matthew Phillips, 30, of 1119 Harvest Drive was arrested at his residence about 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The police brought Phillips from his house in to the Will County jail in Joliet. But he didn't stay long, as the same day he was taken into custody, he was packed off to the LaSalle County jail where he remained locked up Tuesday.

According to the LaSalle County State's Attorney's Office, Phillips failed to register as a sex offender as required by the state. He also did not attend mandated counseling, an attorney in the office said.

On top of facing a charge of failing to register as a sex offender, prosecutors are attempting to revoke Phillips' probation.

Phillips reportedly landed on the sex offender list after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated sexual abuse in 2010.

Phillips' victim was an acquaintance three years his junior with whom he once had relationship, according to the state's attorney's office.

Phillips is one of only seven sex offenders listed on the state's registry as residing in Shorewood.
