St. Joe's Worker Had Shower Sex With Psych Ward Patient: Lawsuit

A lawsuit filed against St. Joseph Medical Center and a hospital employee alleges the worker had sex with a psychiatric patient in a shower.

A St. Joseph Medical Center employee had sex with a psychiatric patient in a hospital shower room, according to allegations in a lawsuit filed Friday.

The lawsuit filed in Will County court accuses employee Maurice Nelson of having sex with Plainfield resident Courtney Payer in October 2012.

Payer is a "high risk patient with clear and obvious diminished mental capacity," the lawsuit said.

Along with Nelson, the suit names "Provena St. Joseph Hospital" and describes it as a facility in Will County. Joliet's Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, which was formerly known as Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, is the only hospital named St. Joseph in Will County.

Presence St. Joseph Medical Center spokeswoman Katrina Wolcott declined to comment on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit does not state Nelson's position at the hospital, identifying him only as an "agent, employee and/or servant of Provena." The suit also said Nelson failed to "protect (Payer) from sexual contact" by having sex with her.
