A Joliet man went to jail after a Shorewood cop caught him riding around without a seat belt.

Areaul Smith, 25, of 806 Spencer St. was picked up during a 10:20 a.m. traffic stop in the 900 block of Brook Forest Avenue.

Smith was not wearing his seat belt, police said.

Smith was also wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant for violating his probation, according to the Shorewood police.

Smith had done six months state time in 2010 on a robbery charge, according to DOC records, and is still on parole.

Smith was taken to the Will County jail.

Feb. 9

Alabaman arrested

An Alabama man was arrested for driving around Shorewood in broad daylight with a suspended license, police said.

Zendes Woodard, 27, of Montgomery, Ala., was taken into custody during a 1:45 p.m. traffic stop in the 800 block of Brook Forest Avenue.

Woodard was charged with driving while license suspended and without insurance. He posted bond and was released from custody.
