Woman Beaten Throughout Night in Evergreen Terrace Apartment: Cops

A man allegedly kicked down his ex-girlfriend's Evergreen Terrace apartment door and battered her throughout a night.

A 19-year-old woman survived a night of brutality at the hands of her ex-boyfriend after he kicked down the door of her Evergreen Terrace apartment, police said.

Officers apprehended the woman's alleged attacker the next day as he was standing around outside the near west side apartment complex where they both live.

Mark Patton, 21, of 358 N. Broadway was charged with home invasion and domestic battery in connection with the alleged 7:30 p.m. Tuesday attack.

Patton's former girlfriend reportedly told police that after Patton kicked down her door, he proceeded to punch her about the face and body. He then kept her captive throughout the night and continued to hit her, police said. He also allegedly threatened to kill her.

At some point, a neighbor heard the young woman plead, "Stop hitting me," police said, and he called the police. Patton reportedly learned the law was on its way and he took off from the apartment.

After arriving at the apartment, officers reportedly saw bumps, bruises and scratches on the woman's body. The woman told officers Patton had beaten her five or six times in the past, but that she did not call the police because she was afraid he would kill her, said Chief Mike Trafton.

The next morning, the woman called the police and told them Patton was around. He was taken into custody near the corner of Broadway and Spring Street and was transported to the county jail.

Lets tear down the public housing and kick these people while they are down. Its easy for you to say. Easy for you to want to limit welfare, but unless you have seen what goes on in the streets first hand educate yourself. I have been on and gotten myself off welfare, lived in the "ghetto" shit is hard when you are a target. Its easy to come from a family with enough money to send you to singing lessons, a gym, private school ect. But when you support others(family) and try to build an empire for your kids while paying bills ect making minimum wage its pretty hard. If you dont understand that life has variables and some may have had a harder start than you then stay ignorant and continue to run your house and raise bad kids assuming the ghetto is where criminals reside.

Simplethought - Since you don't know me. I grew up with nothing but didn't turn to a life of beating women. My family never used welfare no matter how hard times were - I went in to the service in order to gain a better life for myself. I didn't produce a load of kids I couldn't provide for either. It is called self control and earning an honest living rather than mooching off the tax payers then blaming them for my troubles.
