Prosecutor Dunn Appointed as Nominee for 97th House District Seat

from Committee to Elect Moira Dunn

Moira Dunn of Shorewood will run for the open state representative seat in the 97th District following former candidate Dennis Grosskopf’s decision to remove himself from the general election ballot.

“I’m excited for this new opportunity to continue serving my community and to be a strong bipartisan voice for every person in this district, regardless of whether they are Republicans, Democrats or Independents,” Dunn said.

“As a criminal prosecutor, I have fought hard for local families, working for justice for victims and their families and to keep dangerous criminals off the streets. We need a new voice and fresh perspective to fight for middle-class families who continue struggling to get by, for our schools and our children to make sure they get the best education possible and for seniors and taxpayers who are constantly faced with the prospect of higher property taxes.”

Dunn is a criminal prosecutor with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office. Stricken with an undiagnosed brain tumor during law school, she overcame a life-threatening health obstacle to receive her law degree before undergoing successful surgery. She has worked in both civil and criminal law for more than a decade.

Dunn has volunteered for a local Court Appointed Special Advocates for children group and is active in the Will County Bar Association and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will-Grundy Counties.

“After talking it over with my family, I have decided that due to the commitments I have to them and to my job as a teacher, the most responsible thing for me to do at this time is to remove myself from the ballot,” Grosskopf said.

“Fortunately, we have an excellent candidate in Moira Dunn. She stands in strong contrast to Mark Batinick, who has been accused by members of his own party of orchestrating a takeover of the Plainfield Park District only to enrich himself and his political insider friends.”

The 97th Representative District consists mainly of portions of Plainfield, Shorewood and Oswego.
