Ramblin' Gamblin' Shorewood Rewind

So we heard town fathers are wringing their hands about whether to allow video gambling in town.

If they give video gaming the thumbs up, the government can tax it. But some on the village board seem to be worried about what people who don't like gambling might have to say. So they're reluctant to push video gambling through without getting some input from the public.

And that's important, because if the Shorewood village government shoots this down, there's no way anybody's going to play on video slot or poker machines that pay out. At least not in bars or social clubs. It's silly to think anyone would flaunt the law like that.

So it makes perfect sense to turn down the $2,250 per year per machine that Shorewood stands to make off legalizing video gaming. And that's because gambling is wrong. Unless you do it in Joliet.

At any rate, the lack of gambling in Shorewood is just one more thing that makes it better than other places, such as Joliet, not to mention Channahon and Minooka, where they don't even have casinos.
