I-80, Western Avenue, Center Street Lane Closures Start Monday

The Illinois Department of Transportation will start two Joliet projects Monday that will mean daily traffic disruptions on the Interstate 80 bridge and in the area of Western/Center streets.

The Illlinois Department of Transportation will start two projects Monday -- inspections of the Interstate 80 bridge and resurfacing of Western Avenue and Center Street -- that will affect traffic in Joliet.

The inspections of the bridge over the Des Plaines River will require daily lane closures that will be set up and removed during off-peak travel hours Monday through Thursday, according to a news release issued by by the city of Joliet.

The work is required by the Federal Highway Administration and will begin on the westbound side of the bridge Monday before switching to the eastbound side on May 6, depending on the weather.

All inspections should be completed by May 10, the release said.

IDOT also will begin the process of resurfacing Western Avenue, from the Des Plaines River to Center Street, and Center Street between Western Avenue and Jefferson Street on Monday.

While the streets will remain open, the project will require daily lane closures until it's completed by June 3. On-street parking will be limited.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution in both areas and to seek alternate routes if possible.

The Illinois Department of Transportation needs to closely inspect the eastern most portion of the east bound lanes. For the last 10 years there has been an annual eruption of the joint that concludes the bridge's eastern buttress. Specifically the center lane. There has been degradation of the joint exposing in pot holes the re-bar reenforcing the concrete. This would be normally due to movement between the bridge and the buttress. If this isn't resolved there could be a catastrophic failure like the one that happened on I-35 in Minnesota. These bridges are identical and although the I-80 span is smaller the volume of traffic could make this collapse even worse.

There is just no money for it. The state's broke and no help from the Feds. It is more important that billionaires and corporations continue to get tax cuts they don't need. And dammit, Even Speaker Boner and Bitch McConnell had bridges in their district pointed out to be unsafe but failed to act. They don't want to pass necessary public works projects because they will create jobs, lower unemployment and help the POTUS. You do realize the POTUS is a muslim, socialist, communist, fascist, nazi, Merica hating secret agent who wants to turn the country over to the Muslim Brotherhood. Besides, they can ride on Private Jets of people who get tax breaks on them. Piss on the American people, we have to get another WASP Cracker in the White House. But rest assured, if there is any money left it may go to public works instead of anything to help all the poor and minority citizens. Is this a great country or what ??

Where do you buy your stuff?

@ Fillup Queery. I buy it on the Fauxnews website. The same place you go to get your inflatable Sean Hannity doll and naked pics of Bill O'rielly. I think you also used that site to get your GED, and book your Asian sex tour or did you just get that info from your dad.
