Shorewood Police Department's Spring Cleaning in the Fall

The Shorewood cops are getting rid of a bunch of stuff.

The has cleaned its place up and is getting rid of a bunch of stuff it can't use and doesn't want anymore.

The police department is disposing of nine laptop computers, 15 police radios, a VHS video camera, assorted other electronic accessories, and an "old Sirchie Polaroid booking camera," according to a memo from Police Chief Aaron Klima to the board.

Some of the radios are going to be given to the village's emergency service and disaster agency, Klima said, some of the equipment will be thrown away, and some will be sold on the Internet auction site eBay.

Klima sought — and received — the approval of the village board last week to get rid of the equipment.

"We're not going to have a tent sale?" asked Mayor Rick Chapman while Klima was making his pitch during last week's board meeting.

Klima assured the mayor there would not be a tent sale. He also told the board that the memories of all the laptops will be wiped clean, so sensitive information should not fall into the wrong hands.

All the equipment the police department is disposing of has already been replaced, sad Klima, who noted that the old booking camera is on its way out because the company no longer makes film for it.

But the booking camera is not useless to everyone, as the department is giving it to a police museum.
