Shorewood Welcomes Aboard New Village Administrator

New Village Administrator Jeff Fiegenschuh doesn't start work until next month but was still at Tuesday night's board meeting.

Shorewood Mayor Rick Chapman likes the fact that he seems to be getting his money's worth out of new Village Administrator Jeff Fiegenschuh.

"He's showed up a few times so far and his paycheck doesn't start until Nov. 14," Chapman said during Tuesday night's village board meeting, for which Fiegenschuh had shown up.

"It kind of shows me the type of man we're getting and the attitude he has toward his job," the mayor said.

The retained the Deerfield firm Vorhees Associates LLC to compile a list of suitable candidates to replace former Village Administrator Kurt Carroll, who bolted for the apparently greener pastures of New Lenox.

Vorhees Associates came up with 100 applicants — at least one of which came from out of state — and six finalists were interviewed by the village board before Fiegenschuh was offered the job.

"Mr. Fiegenschuh comes to us after a very in-depth search," Chapman said.

And he comes to Shorewood from the town of Princeton, where he worked as city manager for about five years.

Shorewood is paying Fiegenschuh $112,000 a year, Chapman said. Carroll is reportedly getting $153,000 a year from New Lenox.

"It was tough to leave Princeton because it has really become a second home," said Fiegenschuh, a Nebraska native, who added, "I know and I hope I won't let you down."
