JCA Spirit Raffle A Winner

Joliet Catholic Academy teacher Greg Vogen won the $5,000 top prize during the school's 2011 Spirit Raffle.

Joliet Catholic Academy science teacher Greg Vogen won the first-place prize of $5,000 at the drawing for the 2011 Spirit Raffle. The ticket was sold by Nathan Vogen, Greg’s son.

The second-place prize of $2,500 went to Ray Barton, Class of 1949, and was sold by Molly Gunning. The third-place prize of $1,500 was not announced, the name withheld by request of the winner.

The fourth-place prize of $500 went to Geri Russ and was sold by Adriana Trizna. Russ is Trizna’s aunt. The fifth-place prize of $500 went to JCA parent Keith Borgra and was sold by Nick Borgra, Keith’s son.

The top student sellers were: $500 cash prize to sophomore Melissa Bruggeman; $400 cash prize to junior Amy Koncar; $300 cash prize to senior Laurel Stofan; $200 cash prize to freshman Drew Voss; and $100 cash prize to senior Nolan Hucek.

The top selling homerooms were: freshman first place, Marge Lakota, 98.75 percent; sophomore first place, Jane Nolan, 94.41 percent; junior first place, Rob Passehl, 98.05 percent; senior first place, Jan Brill, 97.13 percent. The overall top selling homeroom was Marge Lakota’s freshman class.

Christine Voss, JCA’s Special Events Manager, would like to thank mom volunteers Nancy (Hutten, ’77) Beutel, Gloria Dollinger, Kathy Hall, Deb Kennedy, Celeste Morimoto, Kim Pentris, Julie Newsome, Donna Barr and Mary Whalen and student volunteers Kelly Feigh, Nolan Hucek, Spencer Tyrell, Mallory Mangun and Jill Hickey.

Voss also wanted to send out a special thanks to JCA staff members Peg Goolsby, Suzanne Kairis, Holly Scordo, Bill Scheibe, Denise Phillips, Rosa Laporta-Aranda, Rosemarie Costa, Virginia Lovell-Mladic and Barb Bertino.

The Spirit Raffle is the only student fundraiser sponsored by JCA and is highlighted by incentives for selling tickets, which include a free day, spirit wear, free lunch and the cash rewards.

“I am continually impressed by how our student body and parents and the JCA community rises above the challenges to support the school they love,” Voss said. “And they do it with a smile on their face. The students stepped up, took ownership and showed maturity in being involved with this fundraiser.”
