JCA Sports Wrap: Fahrner Serves Up Volleyball Win

Plainfield's Meggie Fahrner fired off an 11-point service run as Joliet Catholic Academy swept Hinsdale Central. The Angels also won their regular-season finale in girls golf.

Wearing the No. 7, Joliet Catholic Academy’s Meggie Fahrner rolled an 11 Monday night.

The senior defensive specialist rattled off 11 consecutive service points in the second set as the Angels pulled away from a 5-5 deadlock en route to a 25-16, 25-12 nonconference win over Hinsdale Central.

“Meggie did a great job serving,” JCA coach Christine Scheibe said of Fahrner, a Plainfield resident. “She got on a great run for us during that second game with her tough, aggressive floats.”

The three-time defending tourney champion and the No. 2 seed of this weekend’s Mizuno Cup, JCA plays St. Viator on Tuesday night. The Angels held Michigan recruit Ally Davis to 2 kills.

“This was a very solid match,” Scheibe said. “I felt, especially in Game 2, the block was extremely strong.”

GIRLS GOLF: Behind medalist Claire O’Connor’s 45, the Angels prepared for Wednesday’s Class A Nazareth Regional by defeating Plainfield South 202-220 at Woodruff.

Maddy Troha shot a 48 for JCA (10-10), while Laurel Stofan carded a 54 and Carmella Bolin (Plainfield) and Kelsey Fenske each scored with a 55.

Lexi McClintock (57), Stephanie Tillman (63) and Jessica DeLaVergne (65) also competed. Plainfield South’s Alex Catalano shared medalist honors with O’Connor.

“It was great to see the girls bounce back from a disappointing conference tournament performance to win their final match of the season,” JCA coach Kathy Major said.
