Siegfried Draws The Line For JCA

Zach Siegfried pushed the Hilltoppers' continued improvement with a solid showing at the Joliet Steelmen Invite.

The extra miles that Zach Siegfried logged during the summer are starting to pay off.

The Joliet Catholic Academy junior and Bolingbrook resident placed 57th with a time of 18:00 Saturday as the Hilltoppers finished 13th at the Joliet Steelmen Invite, which was held at Channahon Park.

Right behind Siegfried was Jeremy Adams (Elwood), who placed 72nd with a time of 18:35.

“Zach has really improved from last year,” JCA cross country co-coach Mark Clarke said. “He put in a lot of time this summer, logged a lot of miles, and you can see how much he has progressed.

“Our team is improving, Zach and Jeremy’s times are coming down, and we’re right on schedule.”

Dyllan Mattea (Joliet) placed 85th with a 19:23 for JCA, while Sam Couch (Bolingbrook) placed 87th with a 19:30 and Anthony Salata (Bolingbrook) took 88th with a 19:32. Luke Warpinski (Plainfield) was close to that pack with a 19:43, good for 94th.

Ryan Hippman (20:56), Josh Rohder (21:33), Adam Kaloczi (22:59), Dominick Gallo (25:40) and Connor Runge (27:57) rounded out the Hilltoppers’ list on an afternoon that saw Siegfried push toward the finish line.

“I thought Zach ran a really strong race,” JCA cross country co-coach Mindy Izzo said. “I think he’s starting to realize his potential and he has been getting stronger and stronger every race.”
