Not many can say their artwork is on display on a place that’s hard to miss and usually moving.
Cayla Ringelsten, a student at the William B. Orenic Intermediate School, recently learned that she was the winner of the Preferred Meal Systems second annual “Healthy Lunch for a Healthier Me” art contest for fourth- through sixth-graders in 27 states.
Students across the country had a chance to learn about healthy eating and artistically express what a healthy school lunch means to them through the art contest sponsored by their local school meal provider, Preferred Meal Systems.
Cayla learned that she was the winner at a special presentation and truck reveal at her school.
Six first-place winners were selected to have their artwork displayed on a Preferred Meal Systems delivery truck and each winner is honored at the reveal.
Winners were selected by special guest judges and voted on by company employees based on originality of design, theme message clarity and artistic merit.
Second- and third-place winners will be featured on school tray liners and the annual calendar during the 2013-14 school year.
“We are so proud of Cayla and this accomplishment. She is a very talented girl with a gift for art and her drawing really captured the message of the importance of healthy eating,” principal Robert Baughman said.
Paige and Nick from Paige & the Reverent Few announced the winning entry, played some music and spoke to students about the importance of a healthy lifestyle at an assembly at the school.
“The Preferred Meal Systems Healthy Lunch for a Healthier Me campaign helps educate students about the importance of food and nutrition as well as why breakfast and lunch selections are healthier and even more appealing to them today,” said George A. Chivari, President & CEO Preferred Meal Systems.
