Crossroads Fest 2013 is coming!

37 years ago, in an empty corner lot off of Route 59, Crossroads Fest was born amidst polyester and AMC Pacers. It was the Disco Era, the country had just passed thru Watergate and we were looking for some fun. It lasted one evening…

Now , it’s grown from a community Octoberfest to an event that draws more than 10,000 people during its three-day run. This year’s Crossroads Festival will be from 4 p.m. to midnight Aug. 2, 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 3, and 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug.45 at Four Season Park in Shorewood. The Festival is brought to the community by the Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce. The presenting sponsor for the entire weekend is Heartland Bank and Trust.

Children and family activities have been the core of Crossroads Fest and this year is no different. In addition to a 3 day carnival, Saturday’s events include free Children’s Activities and Home Depot workshops like building a birdhouse and toolbox. Tie Dyed T-Shirts will make an appearance again this year — wear old clothes, it’s going to get messy.

Old fashioned Carnival fun will include a USATF Certified 5K , the Amateur Bean Bag Tournament, Pie and Hot Dog Eating Contests and Fireworks on Saturday night provided by the Village of Shorewood. Headliners for the Entertainment Tent are Libido Funk Circus on Friday and ARRA on Saturday. The highlight of the festival is always the parade on Sunday that kicks off at 12pm. With the addition of a full afternoon of local artists providing music on Sunday afternoon to close the Fest, its “The best weekend of the year in Shorewood!” said Denise Schmidt, the President of the Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce.
