Joliet Slammers to Host Open Tryout

Want to play ball for the Slammers?

The Joliet Slammers, presented by ATI Physical Therapy, announced Monday that their player tryouts will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 4, at Silver Cross Field, 1 Mayor Art Schultz Drive in downtown Joliet.

“This will give us an opportunity to see some local talent first hand and provide guys a chance to prove themselves,” manager Jeff Isom said in a statement released by the team.

Interested players can register in advance by clicking here, but registration will also take place the day of the tryout.

Registration will cost $50 (pre-register) or $75 (day of tryout) to participate and only cash will be accepted the day of the tryout. Players should arrive at 8 a.m. to sign up. The tryout will go from 9 a.m. to noon and select players will be asked to stay after to compete against the Slammers in an exhibition game.  It is a one-day tryout with no make-up date in case of rain.

Any interested players must have been born after December 31, 1986 due to the Frontier League’s age limit. In order to participate, players must have completed their college eligibility and be at least 20 years old. Players need to bring their own equipment, including helmets and wood bats.

Interested players also have a chance to sign with a team at the 2014 Frontier League Tryout Camp and Draft to be held on Monday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 29 at UC Health Stadium in Florence, Kentucky.

More information on the Frontier League tryout is available online.
