Rascals Get Last Laugh On Slammers

The Rascals beat up on the Slammers to the tune of 17 runs in taking the rubber game.

Josh Flores led off the game for the slammers with a home run, and it was all down hill from there.

The River City Rascals scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back as they romped to a 17-7 victory over the Joliet Slammers Sunday night.

Andrew Moss (4-4) had a start to forget has he only lasted one inning, giving up seven runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked one and struck out two.

His successor, Jeremy Tietze, didn't do much better as he lasted only two innings, giving up seven runs, all earned, on 10 hits.

The Rascals strung together five straight hits after a lead-off walk in the first inning to go up 4-1. Then with two away and the bases loaded Chris McClendon cleared the bases with a double.

A Logan Parker two-run homer off Tietze made it 9-1 in the second inning. The Rascals scored five in the third to put the game completely out of reach. A Joash Brodin three-run homer put the exclamation point on the frame.

Kyle Maunus smacked an RBI single in the fourth to make the score 14-2. Bobby Leeper drove in Tobi Adeyemi with a single in the seventh. Then River City tacked on two more in the bottom half of the frame against Billy Petrick and one more in the eighth off of Chuck Lukanen.

The Slammers did push across four runs in the ninth inning as Maunus and Brent Walters delivered RBI hits.
