Shorewood Crossroads Fest 5K Results

Newsome's Stan Smith says 'fabulous day' results in large turnout for annual Crossroads Festival race.

In a word, Shorewood’s weekend could be described as “glorious.”

The weather was glorious. And so was the 37th annual Shorewood Crossroads Festival, the list of events running the gamut from a 5K race sponsored by Newsome Physical Therapy Center to a beautiful baby contest, fireworks and a parade.

“It’s been a fabulous day; we’ve been so lucky,” Newsome’s Stan Smith said just prior to the start of Saturday’s children’s race behind the Shorewood Police Station. “We’ve been so lucky. We’ve been doing this for over 20 years, and we’ve never had a rain day. And it’s beautiful today.

“We’ve got a really good turnout—probably the highest turnout today that we’ve had for three or four years, so it’s been really nice.”

MyLaps—the outfit that handles timing duties at the Chicago Marathon—was on hand to mark runners’ performance in Shorewood, too.

“We’ve added that in over the last couple years,” Smith said. “So, it’s becoming a real good event. A lot of people are following it.”
