Slammers Clip RiverHawks' Wings

A nine-run first inning was eight more runs than the Slammers would need to seal the deal Friday night.

The Joliet Slammers struck early and often as they beat the Rockford RiverHawks 14-1 on Friday night at Road Ranger Stadium.

The Slammers led off the game with a nine-run first inning, including two home runs by Josh Flores and one from David Fox. Fox would go deep again in the fourth. The Slammers put up 20 hits against the RiverHawks, a season high for hits allowed against Rockford.

The Slammers' Jake Renshaw shut out the RiverHawks over five innings and claimed the league lead in wins with 13 against four losses. Brian Fowler picked up his first save as he pitched the last four innings in his first relief appearance for the Slammers.
