Slammers Kings of the Road

RThe Slammers won their fourth straight away game Tuesday night.

Andrew Moss is making this whole “pitching” thing look very easy in recent games.

The former Cardinals farmhand followed up his no-hitter with seven scoreless innings as the Joliet Slammers beat the Gateway Grizzlies by a final score of 8-3 Tuesday night.

Moss’ attempt at pulling a Johnny Vander Meer ended in the third inning on Tuesday as Brian Harris singled for the first Gateway hit of the night. They’d only get two more off Moss as he dominated their powerful lineup, walking two and striking out three in his seven innings of work.

The Slamemrs' offense took some time to get going but finally pushed across some runs in the sixth against Gateway starter Blake Barber.

Brad Netzel got things going with a double down the left field line. Hector Pellot executed a beautiful bunt and a throwing error by first baseman Logan Parker allowed Netzel to score and Pellot to end up on second base.

One out later birthday boy Sean Estand doubled in Pellot to give the Slammers a 2-0 edge. Reid Chenworth singled Estand home and Joliet had a 3-0 lead.

New Lenox native Josh Flores smacked a solo home run to make the score 4-0 in the seventh. After that the Slammers loaded the bases and David Fox drew a walk to drive in their fifth run of the night.

A Pellot RBI triple in the eighth scored Flores to extend the lead to 6-0.

Gateway did get two back against reliever Billy Petrick in their half of the eighth but the Slammers responded with a Chenworth RBI double and a Fox RBI single in the ninth.

A Johnny Aldaz solo shot for Gateway completed the scoring in the bottom half of the frame.

With the win, the Slammers move to 10 games over .500, matching their season high. The Slammers will look to clinch the series Wednesday night as Tommy Mendoza (3-1, 4.15 ERA) takes the mound.
