Groups Band Together to Help Program For Battered Women

Several groups have joined together to organize a fundraiser for Groundworks.

Several groups have joined together to raise money for a program that assists battered women.

Team We Are One is a collective effort of the teams that were involved in the Fourth Annual Groundworks Angels Against Abuse Walk that was held on Oct. 1 in Shorewood's .

Team We Are One is now holding a benefit to help raise more funds during October which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The benefit is 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the banquet room of the Hampton Inn of Bolingbrook, 165 Remington Blvd.

In a statement released by Team We Are One, they say they are "also trying to raise our voices for the victims of these terrible domestic tragedies which play out in our news everyday. Please help us raise our voices for Kathleen Savio, Lisa Stebic, Stacy Peterson and countless others who are not here to be heard themselves."

"The walk was not quite as successful as in previous years and funding is constantly under siege from the state due to budget cuts, so we are sponsoring a raffle of all different types of baskets," according to the team's statement.

The benefit will feature raffles of various baskets, and more prized will be aded up to Saturday morning. Please leave a message if you have items to contribute or send them to Guardian Angels Community Services.

The team is also taking donations for the baskets and working on adding some bigger ticket items. There will be face painting, temporary tattoos and Halloween inspired baked goods given away as door prizes every half hour.

All proceeds raised will go to Guardian Angels Community Services.

Hot apple cider and coffee will be available free of charge.
