Well stated Will Teach!

All I can do is go off of first hand knowledge, and she did do all those things. My child wasRead More harassed at times by teammates and the principal because we spoke up. It is interesting that almost all the parties involved (super, principal and the coach) are now all gone. You are right about 1 thing, she was not alone, the AD should be next to fall.

I could not agree with will teach more. I am glad she tried to change the culture that had been inRead More place prior to her arrival. I agree with you that I hope the attempted changes continue, but I am not hopeful in light of our recently elected Board of Education.

There should be a clause in the contract with the superintendence that prevent such recruiting.Read More This is common practice in private industry to prevent someone that is leaving a company to take all the good people with them - but our civic leaders would rather be able to line their and their friends pockets then watch out for our kids.

On the contrary... due to the increased enrollment numbers they purchased a 140,000 sq. ft. buildingRead More in Romeoville which negates the need to rent a 8,000 sq. ft. building for a satellite location 10 miles away.

The thing is super small. I would say it's more a space issue. The police must hold classes orRead More meetings there too.

Our family is very sad to see Mr Carroll leave JTHW- our daughter is a Junior and has been in theRead More band there for 3 years. Under his teaching and supervision and encouragement, she has flourished as a musician and student. We have seen first had how devoted he is to his students and the band program. He works more than anyone I have ever known. That he has asked for help so that he might enjoy the milestones of his own child is a reasonable request, given his tenure and longevity at JTHW. The fact that the Joliet school board can so easily let this prize winning teacher leave our school is a testament to the disregard they have for the students in the Band program, even though Band is an award winning program in our state. It is a sad day for all of the current and future band kids. I am only glad that my child was able to sudy under Mr. Carroll as he is what a TEACHER is all about.

Shame on the school board. Hardest working most successful teacher possibly in the district and thisRead More is how he is rewarded. Joliet city of chumps....

We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! Don't know about Minooka but a lot of Channahon teachers think sitting with their feet up on theRead More desk & reading social media is a good example of how to teach! Some either need a good kick in the butt or their walking papers! Don't really know of this man or the bullying.

Teacher's unions (and ALL govt employee unions) suck. FDR may have been one of our 5 worstRead More presidents but he was right about not allowing govt "worker" unions.

I suppose young men running around with their pants down around their knee's is a good sight. ItsRead More disrespectful to the teachers and the school with kids showing up looking like bums. If parents would do their jobs and send their kids to school in proper clothes the school district wouldn't need a dress code.
Shorewood Guy May 1, 2014 at 01:55 pm
Somehow the dress code is now "Troy Spirit wear" sweatpants for the girls.
Patricia L. Egan May 2, 2014 at 10:27 am
I attended the board meeting when Dr. White submitted his resignation. The school board voted toRead More hire the recruiting firm that was approached by Dr. White. I found that disconcerting and feel it was a conflict of interest. While Dr. White had good intentions regarding the dress code, his approach was lacking. Let's hope that the new superintendent will have better communication skills.

I couldn't help but to do some comparison between Stevenson and DHS as a resident in Deerfield,Read More since district has put up the news on the website. Operational spending per student is $16,839 in Stevenson and $20,821 in DHS. STEM ranking, #37 for Stevenson and #145 for DHS. I have been very disappointed in science teaching in DHS. Now I believe that there is some truth in the rankings.

Camps are a great way to get our kids involved. Participate if you can. It’s so important toRead More keep young hands and minds busy with worthwhile activities. And for those who find themselves at home with nothing to do, I have an idea. There's a collection of free instructional videos designed to inform, occupy and entertain young magicians and beginners wishing to test the water. Each video depicts magic tricks using everyday objects easily found in the average home, so there is no cost whatsoever in preparing and performing the content. There is also a ‘how-to’ section to assist in mastering the effects. For anyone interested in taking a peek, they can be found at: http://goo.gl/OnrA5x I hope you find this useful.

How exciting to be getting a new building for the junior college in the area! I do have a question.Read More This article mentions that the building will have a high R-value for the insulation and that it will use energy-efficient heating and cooling. What kinds of systems are they installing to achieve that? I'm curious to know since a friend of mind is thinking about updating the HVAC to her own office space. Thanks! The tail is wagging the dog. Teacher's unions and the incredible power they have are just anotherRead More example of why govt unions are the one of the worst ideas ever hatched.

Instead of worrying about class rank, which is pretty insignificant, MHS really needs to be focusedRead More on the quality of the instruction and the rigor of the courses they offer. Their college and career readiness performance is equivalent to districts that many "escaped" to settle in Minooka. This means that the kids are not learning what they need to be successful in college and career, won't be competitively employable in the US. There are schools everywhere without rankings, and their list of post-high school college enrollment is quite impressive...because the colleges know the level of rigorous standards and instruction those students are receiving, and the have a high ACT score to boot. The problem with people in this hick town is that they worry about what is on the surface, distracted by flashy shiny superficial things, without looking deeper at the FACTS.

All kids are NOT equal. and the class rank tells colleges the students more likely to complete theirRead More programs. Not every kid can throw a good football pass or pass a difficult Physics exam. Dumbing down curriculum does not make the class smarter, it only lowers the expectations.

Even though most people don't use it in their day to day lives, it should still be taught for theRead More simple fact of being able to read it. Imagine 30 years from now your kid gets a letter from their boss lets say, It is wrote in cursive and your child can't read it. Now imagine how that would make them feel...being grown and cant read their bosses hand writing. Not to mention for signature purposes...
