Volunteers are asking residents for continued help in tracking the pooch.
Village of Channahon officials are reporting on the village Facebook page that Finn was reported in Channahon Tuesday morning. The dog was reportedly spotted by a Will County Forest Preserve officer, who saw Finn at 6 a.m. this morning on Route 6 and Konvevich Rd. Finn was on the south side of Route 6 by The Feed Loft and parking lot. He then crossed and went into some backyards on the north side of route 6. The rescue dog has been missing for more than a month is believed to have spent most of last week in Romeoville — thanks to a kindhearted resident. “There was a woman [in Romeoville] who was feeding him,” said Susan Hennis, Finn’s former foster mom and coordinator with the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network. But an attempt…

Or just vote. We don't care if you rock it or not.
It's Election Day! Well, kind of. It's really just a primary. And not even a particularly interesting one. Well, there is the presidential race. But you only get to vote in a contested race if you're pulling a Republican ballot. And if you do, you will also see local product Gary Fitzgerald going for the nomination in the 49th District of the Illinois Senate. And then there's Jack McGuire, who is not representing Shorewood but did live there at one time, according to his wife and neighbors. McGuire wasn't supposed to be living there, mind you, but that's just more evidence of the irresistible allure of Shorewood. At any rate, McGuire's running unopposed in the Democratic Primary for the 86th District of the Illinois House. Not that it …

Today marks 16 years after the tragic bombing that killed 168 people. Columnist Erin Gallagher tells her story about losing a friend.
On this day in 1995, I remember exactly what I was doing. I still get teary eyed thinking about it. I was living in a basement apartment in Iowa City getting ready for journalism class at the university. It was about 10 a.m. when Dan Rather's news alert interrupted regular programming. He said a bomb went off in Oklahoma City. I remember thinking that my former college roommate, Julie Welch, was living there. I wondered if maybe she knew what was going on. I thought about calling her, but I was in a hurry. At the time, I did not put two and two together. That was a Wednesday. The next day, our mutual friend, Beth McGuire, called to give me the news. Julie was working in the Murrah Building. She was missing. Julie had worked as a Spanish …

As the Troy community mourns the loss of a 30-year veteran educator, district superintendent advises parents on how to talk to children about bereavement.
Principal Susan Dowse of Troy Crossroads Elementary lost her battle with cancer Friday. "She was a very optimistic person who brightened the lives of many as a long-time employee of the Troy School District," district Supt. Don White said. Dowse, 60, was planning to retire in June. The district called parents over the weekend with the news of Dowse's passing. Bereavement counselors, teachers and other support staff are at the school today for students, White said. "We suggest that you listen to your child," he wrote in a letter to parents that is going home with students today. In the letter, White advised that if students have questions, parents should "answer their questions simply, honestly and be prepared to answer the same question …

Argentina, Egypt and Libya impact what we grow right here.
Talk to any farmer and he will tell you what is going on in the world. What happens in Russia, for example, has a direct impact on whether or not he can afford the new truck. Unlike ever before, global events have a direct impact on the pocketbooks of local farmers. The corn, soybeans and wheat grown here feed the world. Last week's Ag News focused on the affects of Japan on the U.S. grain markets. This week, the news in agriculture comes out of Argentina, Libya and Egypt. Starting with Argentina, they are definitely a player in the world's grain market. March has not been kind to them. They have been plagued with torrential rains as well as possible corruption. Their IRS-equivalent, called Afip, raided 117 offices of grain traders in a …
