A bill that has already passed the Illinois House could pave the way for limited prescriptions of pot.
Illinois lawmakers may be poised to enact one of the toughest medical marijuana laws in the nation after a Senate Committee moved a bill Wednesday allowing those with a limited list of illness to obtain a prescription for the drug. The bill has passed the Illinois House and Gov. Pat Quinn has said he is open to the proposal, reported the Chicago Tribune. The Senate Committee voted 10-5 even after law enforcement officials objected on the grounds that the bill does not include provisions for driving under the influence of marijuana, the Trib reported. The law would allow patients to obtain 2.5 ounces of marijuana every two weeks. Sixty pot dispensaries would be set up throughout the state. The bill is sponsored by former State’s Attorney …

Shocked and dumbfounded, I turned the news on to see for myself the terrible bombings at the Boston Marathon. As news unfolded, it was apparent that the suspects had been disillusioned and used Islam as a vehicle for their ‘Jihad’ agenda, and I was stunned to see their hijab clad mother at a press conference. Bad news for Islam. — By Rabia Salim On May 2nd, 2011 after nearly 10 years of war, Osama bin Laden is killed. A simple statement with profound, far reaching…

Joliet Catholic Academy's Stephanie Tilliman and Alex Kennedy have worked together to keep the Angels' spirits up despite the sting of an uncharacteristically slow start.
Difficult. Trying. Those two words could be used to describe Joliet Catholic Academy’s softball season. Line drives have turned into outs. Excellent pitching as been wasted on occasion by sloppy fielding. Those two words also could be used to describe how JCA senior pitcher Stephanie Tillman and senior first baseman Alex Kennedy have grown to be stronger individuals during their time with the Angels. They have adapted in difficult times, trying times, and remained steadfast leaders on a very young team. Joliet Catholic Academy has six seniors on its roster—four who regularly start—and the rest of its current cast is made up of freshmen and sophomores. The Angels dropped a 10-2 decision to Marian Catholic on Wednesday afternoon that dropped…

Watch: Joliet West assistant coaches Jonathan Murray and Kevin Fitzgerald run the Tigers through drills during a workout in a warehouse on a rainy day.
I am a believer in the theory the best high school coaches also make for the best high school teachers. And, to my way of thinking, a high school coach can be measured by how successfully he or she is able to convert huge assignment helpings into bite-size parts. I also believe the best high school coaches are the ones who surround themselves with capable assistants and know how to delegate tasks. This affords them the luxury of maximizing practice time without feeling threatened by an underling. And, make no mistake, minutes are precious when you’re dealing with the attention spans of typical high school students and athletes. Joliet West baseball coach John Karczewski makes the most of every second he spends with his Tigers, whether they…

Olddeegee, No financial stake on MY part. I don't know about others here, including you. For those killed in DUI crashes, prison is not more harmful than smoking pot. For the guy killed while eating someone's face, prison would not have been more harmful. For the guy bulldozing the town, prison would not be more harmful.   more ›
