One of the great things about this time of year (besides the snow!) is all of the lists of "The Best Books of the Year" books that come out in newspapers and magazines. Sure, you're going to look at couple of the lists and think that the reviewers picked several clunkers. However, you'll probably also find some books that you'll love, but that you might never have picked up without seeing the list. I will admit to being an eccentric reader - I'll pick up an older title, then a new fiction book, then an odd nonfiction title, but I did read several books this year that I want to share with others.
