The former White Sox pitcher and Baseball Hall of Famer was arrested in October after being found asleep in his vehicle that was driven into a New Lenox field.
Carlton Fisk, the one-time White Sox great who was found passed out behind the wheel in a New Lenox field three months ago, pleaded guilty Thursday to driving under the influence. Fisk has agreed to pay $1,250 in court costs and was sentenced to one year's court supervision under the plea deal approved by Will County Judge Bennett Braun, a story published by the Chicago Tribune said. He must also undergo an alcohol abuse evaluation and meet with a panel of people who have had family and friends killed by drunken drivers, the story said. When a jury finds you guilty of killing your wife, it's safe to say you might have some image problems. But in the aftermath of the Drew Peterson murder trial, defense attorney Joel Brodsky may be looking worse than anyone. First there was his very public feud with co-counsel Steve Greenberg. Then Brodsky voluntarily withdrew (or was he discharged?) from the Peterson defense team. Quadruple-killer Christopher Vaughn getting sent to prison for the rest of his life was just one of the things going on at the Will County Courthouse this week.
Last week was a short one, with Thanksgiving Day and Thanksgiving Day II giving us a bit of a break from the courthouse. But we got right back to it Monday with the attorney for quadruple-killer Christopher Vaughn blaming the guilty verdict on Drew Peterson and Drew Peterson's lawyers, among other things. The judge didn't buy this line of reasoning and declined to call a do-over and hold a whole new trial. Then he slammed Vaughn with four life sentences. That was rough. But at least Vaughn got an early start at serving all that time, as the county packed him off to Stateville Correctional Center the very next day. But that's not all. The Cooperstown catcher's drunken driving case was postponed again.
It's been a month and a week since baseball immortal Carlton Fisk was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of his pickup in a New Lenox cornfield, but the former Red and White Sox star has yet to make it into a Joliet courtroom. Fisk was scheduled for a hearing Thursday morning but his drunken driving case postponed until Dec. 17. Fisk's lawyer, Stephen White, is fighting to get his superstar client's driver's license back and to have evidence ejected from the case. The lawyer for White Sox legend Carlton Fisk filed motions to have evidence thrown out in the Hall of Famer's drunken driving case.
The lawyer for White Sox immortal Carlton Fisk is fighting to get the Hall of Famer's driver's license back and to have evidence ejected from his drunken driving case. Fisk, 64, lost his license when he allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test during his arrest Oct. 22 on charges of driving under the influence, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. But the Sox star had actually volunteered to take the blood-alcohol test, according to a petition filed Thursday by his attorney, Stephen White. White also filed a motion claiming the New Lenox police illegally arrested Fisk since there was "no reasonable suspicion of criminal activity" to give them cause to pull him over in the first place.
