There is a rumor circulating around Channahon that a bear was found on Route 6. Channahon Police Sgt. Shane Casey dug to the bottom of the rumor on Tuesday night when Patch called to find out what was going on. "It came from a Facebook post," he said. I have been up for 24 hours and I just thought I saw a bear on the side of the road, wrote the Facebook user. Casey said he was not sure of the exact wording of the post. However, he said the person must have been referring to a call for Channahon Police at 7:04 a.m. on Route 6 near Ridge Road, for a deer that had apparently been hit by a vehicle. "There was no crash report completed," Casey said. "Either the vehicle was not there or the vehicle had minor damage." Police officers euthanized …

Channahon Police placed 10 no texting signs throughout the village.
The law against texting while driving went into effect at the beginning of this year. Channahon Police Chief Jeff Wold said he has seen people ignoring this law on a regular basis. "I see people on their cell phones, some are talking some are texting and it's quite a bit," Wold said. "I don’t know if it was an increase or just became more aware of it as it became a law." Channahon Police want to be proactive. To that end, they have put 10 signs up around town reminding residents not to text while driving. "We put them in areas where we would just hit the most amount of people," Wold said. The exception to that is the sign they put in the Minooka Community High School parking lot. "We just put it there because there are a lot of new drivers…

It's a situation in which most of us hope we never find ourselves - faced with a gunman in a public place. We hear about the tragedies, the theater shooting in Colorado, or, closer to home, the Northern Illinois University shooting in 2008. We are shocked and concerned, but would we know what to do if we found ourselves in that situation? Channahon Police want to arm the public with knowlege of what to do. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, the department will hold a class at Minooka Community High School, south campus. The class is free and open to the public but, children are requested to be accompanied by a parent. Channahon Police Officer Craig Gunty is the class coordinator. He can be contacted at 815-467-5152 or at cgunty@channahon.org…
