When the holidays are over, bring your real Christmas tree to one of four Will County locations to be recycled. “Recycle the Holiday Spirit” is a free Christmas tree recycling program offered by the Forest Preserve District of Will County. Real trees will be chipped and used at district preserves. Drop off your tree from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 27 through Jan. 7 at Sugar Creek Administration Center, 17540 W. Laraway Road, Joliet; Isle a la Cache Museum, 501 E. 135th St., Romeoville; Plum Creek Nature Center, 27064 S. Dutton in Goodenow Grove Forest Preserve, Beecher; and Monee Reservoir, 27341 Ridgeland Ave., Monee. All tinsel, lights and ornaments must be removed. A funny thing begins to happen around town the first weekend after Thanksgiving. Suddenly, tightly wrapped trees are being strapped to the roofs of family cars with bungee cords and driven home. Soon, these will be set up in the living room, wrapped in lights (once untangled of course), and decked with colored balls, pre-school-era ornaments, tinsel, or just about anything else these days.
