Joliet police were called by employees at Macy's who were concerned about a dog left in a sweltering car while its owner shopped.
This summer's rash of animals and children left to bake in buttoned-up automobiles all over Joliet continued Saturday with dog found in a locked car parked outside the Macy's in the Louis Joliet Mall. Macy's employees called the law about the pooch trapped in the sweat box of a car about noon Friday, police said. Officers arrived and reportedly did indeed find a dog in a car with its windows rolled up. The temperature was in excess of 90 degress at the time, police said. An officer ran the car's license plate and identified the vehicle's owner, then was able to obtain a phone number for her so he could place a call. The woman, Joyce Craig, 50, of 1315 Rowell Ave., happened to be shopping in the Macy's, police said. After she came outside …

A Joliet Township Animal Control officer lost his job last week but he's keeping the Chihuahua he was afraid his bosses wanted to kill, says the Herald-News.
They could take his job away but they couldn't get his Chihuahua. Embattled Joliet Township Animal Control Officer Bryan Jones is keeping the Chihuahua he absconded with and refused to return for fear it would be put to sleep, the Herald-News reported. Jones was fired last week for his allegedly illicit involvement with the wanted Chihuahua. The Herald-News had earlier reported that Joliet Township Supervisor Dan Vera was making noise about demanding the return of Chihuahua, but he apparently backed off today. "Township Supervisor Dan Vera met with the township’s attorney, Franklin Burkey, on Monday morning to talk about their options," according to the Herald-News Story, which featured some quotes from Burkey: “Our position at this point …

So it was Feb. 29 the other day. Whoop-dee-doo.
We had a Leap Day earlier in the week. And like other things that happen every four years, like Olympics and presidential elections, it wasn't as big a deal as everybody was making it out to be. Speaking of the Olympics, there's going to be one of those too this year, in London this time. And the only good thing about that is London is nowhere near Shorewood. Because you know what's the only thing worse than the Olympics? The Winter Olympics. And don't even get us started on the Winter Olympics. Instead, get us started on the SHOREWOOD REWIND: We asked you to tell us your favorite place to exercise in Shorewood. It doesn't look like you have one. And kind of liked it. Big deal. Shorewood Patch theater critic Jason Paha reviewed Dating …

Facebook has cast a massive dragnet for lost dog Ernie of Shorewood.
Ernie, a white and tawny English bulldog, is missing from his Shorewood home. But you may already know that. The 3-year-old, 45-pound dog ran out the front door of his home near the Del Webb neighborhood Saturday. And although his owners Bill Garland, 31, and Vicki “Vee” Glowczynski, 26, handed out fliers, searched on foot and called local animal agencies during the first 24 hours of Ernie’s wanderings, it wasn’t until their friends started posting pictures on Facebook that the search for this much-loved pup took off. The story of Ernie’s escape is “spreading like wildfire” now because of social networking, Garland said. Hundreds of local people (Bill went to Minooka High School) have posted pictures of the small and friendly dog seeking …
