The Shorewood-Troy Public Library has partnered with the Illinois Gators Football Team to collect donations of food and winter coats this year. Food donations will be distributed to the Morning Star Mission in Joliet. Coats will be distributed to Will County homeless. Drop off donations at the library through Friday, Dec. 21.
Friends of a Shorewood family left homeless by a fire have organized a donation drive.
A Tuesday night fire displaced the Armknecht family from their Shorewood home. The very next day, their friends sprang into action and organized a donation drive to help them through this trying time. Karen Thacker, a lifelong friend of the Armknechts, put together the weekend event at The Hangover Bar at 1028 Cora St. in Joliet. "Whoever brings something in gets a drink," said Thacker. Kevin and Danielle Armknecht are in need of clothing for themselves and also for their 10-month-old son, Charlie, and daughter, Natalie, who turns 3 next month.
