Middle school, high school or never? What's your take?
Welcome to "Hey, Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area. Young ladies have been sneaking makeup past their parents for generations. They'll wait to get to school to put it on, and wipe it clean away before they dare step back in the house. It's an issue that's not likely to go away any time soon. That got us wondering ... when should girls have to stop sneaking around? Diana T. Lil girls these days are such in a hurry to grow up...it's truly up to us as parents to help them not grow up too fast. If only they would realize: …

It's a rite of passage for nearly every child: Begging your parents for that first cat, dog or guinea pig as a Holiday present. The debate on our local Facebook pages took many different turns this week, and we want to hear from you, too. Leave your opinion in the comments below and check out what some of our Facebook friends had to say: Betty J. Welcome to Hey Mom and Dad—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area. This week's question is a little delicate, but no less important or worthy of discussion. Without going into too much detail for those wandering eyes: Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section. Philana N. I will bring it up when he asks and has figured it out on his own. He's 8, going on 9 now and still believes. He questions how it's possible, but for now, I still have acceptable answers! Elections and the associated politics can be difficult for young minds to grasp. Still, it's hard to imagine last week's election went unnoticed by our country's young citizens and it's safe to bet they had some questions about the process. That brings us to this week's question. Laura L. Of course I told my 7 and 9 year olds. We made it a trip out together. I let them read the ballot and watch me fill it out. They were very interested and was amazed at how "official" it …

Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area. Facebook currently requires that users be 13 years or older to have an account. While some parents think even 13 is too young, the company has considered reducing age restrictions. But even under the existing set-up, it's easy for children to circumvent the current restrictions by being less-than-honest about their age. That brings us to this week's question. Maybe it's that they are older than the rest, or show up in plain clothes with not even a face mask in sight. But is that a deal-breaker, or is everyone welcome to claim candy on your porch on Halloween? That leads us to this week's question: Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section. Jillian T. …

Parents, Patch wants to hear from you on the questions that get families talking. This week we're wondering: When is enough enough when it comes to grade-school homework?
Welcome to "Hey, Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. We're starting off with a question we posed last week on the Patch Facebook pages: Class is well under way for students all over the area. What once seemed like a few minutes of simple spelling and math has turned into a couple of hours of complex equations and formulas. So, we want to know: Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the Comments section. Rachel A. Children need time to be children, do be social, to have fun.
